When the Catholic Faith is misunderstood by people of good will it is scorned and hated. When its beauty and coherence are presented clearly, it wins respect, devotion and often conversion. For this reason every Catholic Home School child from the upper elementary grades should be able and willing to explain and defend his Faith. Providentially, the last few years have seen an explosion of magnificent apologetics books. What Catholics Really Believe: 52 Answers to Common Misconceptions by Karl Keating is brief but thorough. Three books edited by the noted convert, Scott Hahn, titled Catholic for a Reason, present the Scriptural basis for Catholic belief. They are subtitled Scripture and the Mystery of the Family of God (Book I), Scripture and the Mystery of the Mother of God (Book II) , and Scripture and the Mystery of the Mass (Book III).
In another trilogy, edited by Patrick Madrid, entitled Surprised by Truth, ten to fifteen converts tell their stories in each book. Archbishop Charles Chaput says of these converts in his preface to the first volume, "The apostles preached the Catholic Faith regardless of cost. These converts have accepted that Faith - in each case at great cost. What they learned is here distilled in a masterpiece of Catholic apologetics."
Scott Hahn's own journey to Catholicism is told in his Rome Sweet Home .
Did Adam and Eve Have Belly Buttons? is among our popular apologetics books for teens.
