After many years of neglect the practice of Eucharistic adoration has found a resurgence in many dioceses. Many Catholic home school teachers and students can be found in the ranks of the adorers. In In the Presence of Our Lord, Father Benedict Groeschel, C.F.R., explains the history of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and the theology behind it. Then in a very practical book, Praying in the Presence of Our Lord: Prayers for Eucharistic Adoration, he selects prayers from the time of the Fathers of the Church until our own time that have been used for, and are particularly suited to, praying before the Blessed Sacrament. Our prayers before the Holy Eucharist are very personal but under the tutelage of Father Groeschel several books have been compiled to help us tailor our prayers according to our own bent and following our own spiritual mentors: Praying in the Presence of Our Lord with the Saints, . . . with Mother Teresa, . . . with Fulton J. Sheen, . . . with Dorothy Day, . . . with St. Thomas Aquinas, . . . with St. Padre Pio, . . . for the Holy Souls .
Two other books deserve special mention. Praying in the Presence of Our Lord for Children by Fr. Antoine Thomas, f.j., presents prayers suitable to young devotees; I AM - Eucharistic Meditations on the Gospel, is a book of beautiful meditations by the Mexican mystic, Conchita, based on the gospel passages in which Our Lord defines who He is in a variety of statements beginning with "I am."
In the Presence of Our Lord is a five part EWTN series by Father Groeschel available on both DVD and Video Cassette.
