Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Can I really homeschool my children? I've never had teacher training.

A. Unless you are an absolute scatterbrain, you can do it. There are no degree requirements. If you are  concerned about your children and are reasonably intelligent, you can do it. The earlier you start, the better. There are many support groups, accredited homeschool services, and experienced teaching parents to help you. We provide well proven materials and handbooks to help you get started and to continue your teaching Kindergarten through high school.

Q. Do I have to use a credit card to order?

A.  No. In fact we discourage the use of credit cards.  If you would like to place an order by mail, please write out the titles you would like to purchase, add their costs and the shipping charge and send a check to Catholic HomeSchoolers' Bookshelf, 2399 Cool Springs Rd., Thaxton VA 24174.  Established customers may order by phone (540-947-0160) and we will bill you.

Q. May I send back any materials that do not satisfy me?

 A. You may return any materials in saleable condition within forty days of invoice date.

Q. How do you ship materials?

 A. We usually use the United States Postal Service - Media Mail or Priority Mail as appropriate. We can also ship via UPS for large orders (insured).

Q. Regarding religious education material, can I be sure that they teach the Faith according to the magisterium?

 A. Our motto is "No doctrinally questionable nor unorthodox materials." That is our pledge to you and to the Church.

Q. Do you share my name with other organizations?

 A. No. We do not share your information with other marketing or charitable organizations, no matter how worthy they are. Please see our Privacy Policy page for a complete explanation.

Q. My child goes to CCD. Wouldn't it simplify my life if I just taught other subjects and left the religion to the Sunday School teachers?

A. We both teach CCD. Sunday school teachers are a blessing.  But they are the first to tell you that the depth of knowledge that they can impart in one hour per week is not very great.  The opportunity to teach in depth and to develop a love for the Faith - a love for God and His saints and His Church - is much greater in a home school/family setting.  It is analagous to eating a light lunch once per week as opposed to three square meals every day.  Reading, 'riting and 'rithmetic are important but please don't neglect the most important fourth "r," religion.
