A person with good knowledge but bad manners is an educated boor, a trial to deal with and a disgrace to his family. It is in the family that good manners are best fostered. The children in one Catholic home school family we know were mortified that their mother bought the book Manners Made Easy.  They thought the purchase implied that they were unmannerly. Mother gently explained that there were niceties of manners which they had not yet mastered. She later told us how much the children had enjoyed the book and the fine points they had learned. Everyday Graces: A Child's Book of Good Manners is a treasure trove of stories, poems, letters and essays which exemplify points of good manners in a great variety of situations. Not at all pedantic, it is fun reading.
