Closely related to Chastity Education but distinct from it, Character Education is a key aspect of Catholic Home Schooling. Character education usually flows naturally from a good, loving, balanced Catholic family environment. Yet today there are many outside pressures which militate against the forming of strong character traits. Character Building: A Guide for Parents and Teachers (by David Isaacs) is based on the teaching of  twenty-four key virtues to children at appropriate times in their lives.  Preparing for Peer Pressure: A Guide for Parents of Young  Children  and Preparing for Adolescence: A Planning Guide for Parents (both by James Stenson) help parents plan ahead for the problems they are most likely going to encounter as their children grow in age and face the allures of the world, the flesh and the devil.

Dr. James Dobson offers guidelines on discipline in his The New Dare to Discipline and The Strong-Willed Child. There are many more excellent titles including some directed specifically to the role of fathers in building character in their children.
